The Millcreek Community Center is a gathering place for the young and old. Amenities such as a library, gymnasium, fitness and aerobic rooms, walking track, senior lounge, and community cafe make it a true intergenerational facility. The 20,000 sf library inside the center has a 122,000-item collection and includes a children’s area with story-time room, teen area, self check-out stations, 26 public computers, and sitting area with a fireplace. Certified LEED Gold, the Millcreek Community Center features green elements like solar panels, a geothermal heating system, and energy-efficient systems and equipment.
Stippich Design collaborated with the leadership team of the Millcreek Community Center and Arch Nexus on the development, design, fabrication and installation of the interior signage package. The interior signage package includes interior identification signage, directional/wayfinding signage, and room identification signage.
The development phase began with crafting branding element concepts for the interior signage package. The focus during the examination of the branding was how each of the concepts could most effectively be adapted to distinguish service areas of the Millcreek Community Center. Through this process it was determined a flowing creek element with a color to distinguish each service area would best match design priorities.
The design phase focused on refining color choices for the flowing creek branding element, applying conceptual elements formed during the development phase to large overhead identifications for the Library, Teen area within the Library and Cafe, Rules signs for Fitness Areas, Sustainability features within the facility, and wall mounted directional signage. This was all accomplished by the Stippich Design team providing photo realistic renderings for the large overhead identifications and sustainability recognition wall, a detail drawing for each sign type, a signage location plan with each sign location and message listed, and leading meetings to review, gather feedback, determine how each message and design aligned with priorities for that location to reach finalized designs.
